History of Muskegon County, Michigan Book Project The Muskegon County Genealogical Society, a non-profit organization founded in 1972, is taking on a very important project for both present and future generations of our residents. We are putting together a book—the first of a series that will document the history of our County and its people. The book, titled “The History of Muskegon County, Michigan - A Proud Legacy” will contain family stories; recognition of Veterans; businesses, schools, and church histories; photos of our past; and much more. This will be an 8 1/2” x 11” book with a deep blue hard-cover and a striking silver inlay. It will be well constructed, securely bound, and professionally produced by Walsworth Publishing of Missouri. We are expecting the book to be at least 500 pages with black text on #70 gloss white paper. Walsworth Publishing has been producing history books, yearbooks and other high quality literary works for over 30 years. We are confident that this project will be held to that same high standard. They will be sharing their expertise and guiding us through the process to ensure its success. Similar books have been published and well received in neighboring counties but never has such a project been undertaken in our county. A county of our size and stature deserves to have its own set of historical publications. It will truly be a positive influence; one that will bring many families together to share family photos and enjoy memories and also provide a look at the past for future generations The money raised from this project will be used to allow the Muskegon County Genealogical Society to purchase much needed equipment, continue to maintain and preserve historical records, purchase additional historical records, and promote genealogical research. The society is located in the Hackley Public Library in Muskegon. The rewards of this project will be enjoyed by not only our generation but for many generations to come. Orders for the book have already begun. Stories will be accepted until September 1, 2008 which gives residents time to gather for summer reunions. There will be workshops over the course of this project to assist residents write their stories and scan their photos. Our society has a committee in place to direct the project and many volunteers to assist us from beginning to end. We hope that you will consider including your stories in this very special book. It is very much an important element to the success of this book. Please refer to the brochure for details. If you would like to be recognized as a supporter you may send a tax deductible donation as well.
